TankRate was built to solve a simple problem: fuel prices are hard to track. Prices change daily, vary significantly by location, and the data is scattered across dozens of sources. We aggregate data from trusted providers and present it in a clear, actionable format.

Data Sources

• Fuel prices: Sourced via the Collectapi Fuel Prices API, which aggregates data from official government and market sources across 30+ countries.
• Exchange rates: Provided by ExchangeRate-API, updated every 24 hours to ensure accurate currency conversion.
• Fuel news: Curated from NewsAPI.org, covering petrol, diesel and LPG news globally.
• Weather data: Supplied by OpenWeatherMap, used to provide local driving condition context.
• Geolocation: Powered by ipapi.co, providing country-level detection without storing personal data.

Update Frequency

• Fuel prices: Refreshed every 6 hours via automated cron jobs.
• Price history: Snapshot recorded daily at midnight UTC.
• Exchange rates: Updated every 24 hours.
• News: Refreshed every 2 hours.
• Weather: Cached for 1 hour.

How We Calculate Prices

Prices shown are national averages sourced from our API provider. We convert all prices to the local currency of the selected country using live exchange rates. Unit display (litres vs gallons) automatically adjusts based on country conventions — gallons for US, Liberia and Myanmar; litres for all others.
